Tabarca is situated at about three miles to the south-east of the Cape of Santa Pola and about eight miles from the city of Alicante, the municipality to which it belongs.
It is 2 kilometres long and about 400 meters wide. There is a path going round the island which allows visitors to get to know the place and view the coastal landscape as well as follow the movements of marine birds. Its clear waters, abundant flora and fauna and sea floor, highly valued by diving lovers, were determining factors when it was declared Marine Reserve in 1986.
There is a boat service to the island from the port of Santa Pola and also from Alicante harbour.
