Travel to other cultures at the Valencia Museum of Ethnology

Would you like to travel to other cultures without leaving Valencia? Immerse yourself in other customs and communities of the world? Delve deeper into Valencia culture? The Museu Valencià d'Etnologia seeks to do just that. Ethnology is a social science that studies and compares different human communities around the world and their cultures: the languages we speak, the objects we use, the way we organize family and social relationships, the clothes we wear and the ways we behave.

The Valencia Museum of Ethnology, located in a beautiful building that houses the La Beneficencia Cultural Center in Valencia, boasts a permanent exhibition about Valencia that analyzes the relationships between people and their surroundings in five distinct areas: the city, orchards, the marsh, dry land and the mountains. But it doesn’t stop there. The center also functions as a space for dialogue and the dissemination of different cultures of the world through temporary exhibitions.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to enjoy activities such as Ethnomusic, Ethnocuisine, Ethnomovies, educational workshops and a local museums festival (Ethnopeople). You can also immerse yourself in research programs about ethnological heritage and the recovery and spread of local heritage as well as exploring the center’s extensive and specialized library. This is what travelling is all about: getting to know other cultures helps us know ourselves better, and knowing ourselves better helps us initiate a dialogue with other cultures. And all of this without even having to leave Valencia!
