Torrevieja, between waves and habaneras

Publishing date 7/07/2016

Torrevieja debates itself between the sound of the sea and the music from the habaneras. This year, the Certamen Internacional de Habaneras will have its 61st edition. From the 19th to the 25th of July everyone will enjoy the sea and the best national and international groups and choirs from one of the top sea towns.
Torrevieja, between waves and habaneras

For a week, the habanera will be playing a leading role, not only by the harbor Eras de la Sal, where many soloists and over 15 choirs from all over the world will be performing, but also all along the streets of the city.

This contest began in 1955 and has been declared of International Touristic Interest. During the competition we’ll be able to enjoy the soloists contest (19th of July), the choir competition (20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd of July), the great coral gala and the prize-giving ceremony (24th of July) and the closing evening (25th of July).

Among those taking part in the contest, this year there will be a strong presence of choirs coming from the East of Europe and Asia. Spain will be represented by four choirs and America by one. They will all have to play and sing the habanera ‘Torrevieja en mi corazón’ from Mario I. Bustillo Martínez.

Tickets and passes will be first sold on the 1st and until the 17th of July (both included) in the Patronato Municipal del Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonía from Torrevieja (C/. Patricio Pérez, 1 – 1ºC), Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours and from 18:30 to 20:30 hours.
