Orihuela, a glimpse into Mediterranean history

Orihuela is the ideal destination for spending a summer holiday. Situated in the south of the Region of Valencia, the town and its surrounding area are home to a great range of attractions, including lovely beaches with crystal clear seas, major cultural heritage sites and monuments, beautiful countryside and craftwork.

The old quarter of Orihuela was declared a Historic and Artistic Site in 1969 and has numerous monuments, churches and palaces set in quiet streets that invite you to stroll around and explore.

As well as its artistic heritage, Orihuela also has an attractive coastline, with secluded coves, golden sandy beaches, tasteful residential complexes and two small yachting marinas. From north to south, Orihuela's seafront includes a small but popular cove and an open beach area, both with a full range of services; there's also a promenade leading to a series of smaller coves that are perfect for diving and snorkelling.

If you visit Orihuela at this time of year, you can enjoy sun, sand and cultural tourism, plus the Moors and Christians Festival, which runs until next Sunday. The Festival features exciting parades, firework displays and re-enactment events, like the entrances of the Moorish and Christian troops.

Make the most of your holiday in Orihuela!
