The "Tárrega Effect" (Efecte Tárrega) floods Benicàssim with music

The Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Pageant in Benicassim, which celebrates its XLVIIIth edition this year, from August 29 to September 5, honours the memory of one of the greatest Spanish guitar composers and performers, Francisco Tárrega Eixea. Indeed, Tárrega not only renewed performance technique, but he also created a modern playing school which is still alive and kicking nowadays.

L’Efecte Tàrrega draws the public closer to the world of the guitar from different perspectives: from the most academic point of view to the most innovative one, blending great classics with Flamenco and Jazz rhythms. The Botavara at la Platja dels Terrers, the Amfiteatre Pepe Falomir or the Bodegas Carmelitano will be among the spaces that will host musical concerts in this edition. The Espai de la Música Mestre Vila and the Teatre municipal will also be privileged performance spaces.

Throughout the pageant the participants, all under the age of 33, will play works by Tárrega, Bach, J. Rodrigo and Villa-Lobos and will struggle to win the first prize, which consists of a lump sum of 12000 euros, recording a CD, giving three concerts subsidised by the government of the Valencia Region and a concert at the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
