There are boundless hiking options in the Region of Valencia, making it both simple to find a destination - because you’ve got a lot of choice - as well as difficult - because you don’t know where to start. The three provinces comprising the region offer tracks and trails for all types of walker, whether you like the challenge of the mountains, the picturesque beauty of inland villages or the joy of the sparkling Mediterranean.

To list all the best hiking spots in the region would be impossible, but in this post we’re going to give it our best shot.

Hiking routes in the province of Castellón

Tinença de Benifassà and Sierra de Espadán natural parks are home to some of the best hiking in the Region of Valencia. Tinença de Benifassà is criss-crossed with rugged trails that require a certain level of experience and physical fitness, but the century-old beech woodland that you will find yourself immersed in will more than make up for the effort.

The beautiful foothills of Sierra de Espadán offer simpler hiking routes that you and all the family can enjoy. Ruta de los oficios (which starts in Almedíjar), ruta de la Peña Agujereada and Castillo de Azuébar are just some of the trails that are well worth walking. There are also plenty of easy routes in Vinaròs and then there is the vía verde running between Oropesa del Mar and Benicasim, which flanks the coast and affords shimmering views over the Mediterranean.

Hiking routes in the province of Valencia

The province of Valencia also has its fair share of great hiking. If you’re looking for something easy, we’d recommend the trails through Albufera natural park where you will see all sorts of birdlife, including flamingos. Alternatively, you could delve into Alborache’s history and walk the route that takes you on an exploration of a number of old mills.

Head further into the inland to walk among the magical woodland of Las Blancas in Ademuz where you can marvel at the impressive junipers. Then in Chelva there is a route that follows a river, which is ideal for a day out with the kids, and in Villargordo del Cabriel there’s no shortage of trails that will take you deep into the Hoces.

There’s a hiking route for every walker in the Region of Valencia. Pull on your hiking boots and pack your rucksack for a day spent roaming the incredible scenery across the destination.

Hiking routes in the province of Alicante

The province of Alicante is home to landscapes - and their corresponding trails - whose beauty will blow you away. Barranc del Infern in La Vall de Laguar and the Sierra de Bernia mountainscape are just two destinations that will leave you breathless. If you’re looking for something a little simpler that the whole family can enjoy, there is also plenty of choice. The Mill Walk in Banyeres de Mariola and the pathways at Salinas de Santa Pola are both great options.

If you fancy breathing in the fresh sea air, there’s a wide range of trails to choose from. The route through Penyal d’Ifach natural park, to name an example, is a great place to combine spectacular Mediterranean views with a spot of birding
