El Salvador

On 6th August El Salvador district celebrates the feast day of the patron saint of Onda and the inhabitants pay their respects in an age-old tradition. The real spectacle happens that night, known as “nit del Salvador”. During the whole night of the 5th, the people of Onda journey the five kilometres that separate the town from the Santísimo Salvador hermitage in pilgrimage to attend a solemn Mass, sing the hymn to the saint and participate in other acts arranged in honour of their patron. Meanwhile, friends gather together in little houses in the countryside, where they have supper, let off firecrackers in honour of the Salvador and enjoy a night of music, warmth and in a word: festivity. Nowadays the traditional festivity is rounded off with Onda Natura, which includes games, adventure, dancing, etc.
