This kind of fortress castles is typical of the rural area, also known as the cattle fold. It was built in the 12th century, during the Almohad period. Triangular-shaped with double walled enclosure and reinforced angles with defensive towers, it needs to be mentioned that it has an excavated tank to store water, which we can find inside. It has to be said that this Islamic fortification is one of the best preserved of this period of time in the central regions. It was conquered by the Christians in 1244, initially it served as shelter to Christian settlers installed in the new village of Llutxent. Both the castle and the natural environment known as ‘Monte Santo’, are inextricably linked to one of the most popular legends and traditions of our land, the so-called “Milagro de los Corporales”.
