Be transported to Roman Edeta at the Roman Mausoleums in Llíria, unique examples of Roman funerary architecture and the traditions of Roman Hispania.

Take a journey back in time at the Mausoleos Romanos, Roman Mausoleums, in Llíria, which are part of the necropolis of old Roman Edeta. Reflecting the cultural richness of Roman Hispania, the site is an excellent example of Roman funerary architecture. Two monuments, strategically located close to the entrance of the city, showcase the funerary beliefs and rites of the period.

The first mausoleum, which has a rectangular plan and the shape of an arch, is defined by a façade with fluted columns and contra-grooves, highlighting the elegance and mastery of the architecture. Inside, a funerary chamber houses two adjacent benches, which may have been used during the Parentalia, a festival held in honour of deceased relatives. The second monument, which is part of the tower-shaped tombs, presents intriguing details concerning Roman funerary practices. A slab with a hole in the middle for libations encloses a cubic cavity where ashes and funerary objects were placed.

The visitor experience is enriched with the screening of a documentary titled "Eutico, in search of Elysium” in the audiovisual room, which will tell you the history of the site. Considered one of the most significant funeral sites of the old Roman province of Hispania, the Roman Mausoleums highlight the importance the Romans gave to the remembrance of their loved ones. Discover the majesty of the mausoleums as you delve into ancient traditions.
