Visit a chapel sitting atop Muela de Santa Catalina.

Aras de los Olmos has plenty of historic and natural heritage sites to visit. This part of the province of Valencia is full of charming spots that are ideal for a getaway that will break you away from your routine.

During your time here we recommend visiting Ermita de Santa Catalina, Santa Catalina Chapel, which sits 5km from the centre of Aras de los Olmos. Perching 1,100m above sea level, atop Muela de Santa Catalina, this place of worship is listed a Monument of Local Interest and dates back to the 17th century.

It is said that a young shepherd found the image of La Virgen Catalina while he was looking after his flock. The shepherd tried to bring the image home with him on a number of occasions, without success, as she always returned to her place of origin. Once this story became well-known, La Virgen Catalina became the patron saint of the village and the chapel that you can see today was constructed at the same site. The inn located next door was added in 1728.

You can get to the chapel by car, following the road in the direction of Losilla and then taking a side road. You can also take the same journey by bike or on foot. You will find yourself immersed in a landscape in which, beyond the chapel and inn, you can see a fountain fed by spring waters whose source is in the mountain. Make the most of the tables, benches and bins to organise an al fresco meal. What are you waiting for? Make sure you visit Santa Catalina Chapel in Aras de los Olmos to see its beauty.
