The Fine Arts Museum San Pío V

The museum is considered one of the most important art galleries in Spain. The most outstanding collection is that of the "Primitive Gothic Valencian painters" with works by Pere Nicolau, Jacomart, Joan Reixarch or Miguel Alacanyís. In the Renaissance period the works of Paolo de San Leocadio, Hernando Yánez de la Almedina, Vicente Macip or Joan de Joanes should be highlighted. There are works from the schools of Pinturicchio, El Bosco, or Pellegrino Tibaldi. In the Baroque period the works of the painters: Francisco Ribalta, José Ribera, Diego Velázquez or Bartolomé Esteban Murillo are to be highlighted. The Valencian Baroque School is represented by works by Ribera, Juan Ribalta or Espinosa. As regards academic paintings the works of Francisco de Goya, José Vergara or Vicente López are to be highlighted. The most outstanding works from the 19th and 20th centuries are those corresponding to Joaquín Sorolla, José Benlliure Gil, Antonio Muñoz Degrain, Ignacio Pinazo or Cecilio Plá. Moreover, the museum houses a collection of sculptures from which the creations of Mariano Benlliure stand out.
