Discover an excellent museum where you can delve into the history of València’s silk industry.

CM Art Major de la Seda, the Silk Museum in València, is housed in a beautiful, historic building that has been listed a National Historic-Artistic Monument which, in the 15th century, was the guild of velvet weavers or Velluters. The guild, which later became the College of the Fine Art of Silk, represented one of the most important forms of artisanship in the city. In the 18th century, there were about 5,000 looms in València, providing working for almost half of the city’s population.

It's well-worth visiting the building housing the Silk Museum: both the palace’s architecture and the collection will blow you away.

Flaunting the Gothic style, the building boasts priceless mosaic floors, frescoes and murals. Take your time as you explore the chapel, La Fama hall, the historical archive and the excellent temporary exhibitions. The museum shop is full of delicate and colourful objects that evoke traditional prints, known as espolines, which decorate traditional clothing. Fans, shawls and other accessories and souvenirs await. Make sure you take a look at the restaurant menu and savour something delicious on the beautiful terrace. So how about it? Will you be putting the museum on your itinerary for València?
