The house of El Pavo

Img 1: THE HOUSE OF EL PAVO

Without a doubt, this is one of Alcoy’s most emblematic buildings, symbolising the city’s economic growth in the early years of the 20th century. The house, of modernist style, was built betwen 1908 and1909 by the architect Vicente Pascual Pastor, in collaboration with one of the greatest exponents of 19th Century Alcoy painting, Fernando Cabrera Cantó, who transformed the house in his studio. The facade exposes wrought iron work in mosaic finished balconies and terraces, as well as other outstanding elements as well, such as the forged door knobs and the image of a turkey on the door lintels, and for which the house has been named.
