The Municipal Historical Archive (Maisonnave Mansion)
The local nobility built mansions in the city of Alicante which today can be considered as veritable monuments. The oldest one is that of Berenguer de Marquina, and the Maissonave mansion, built in the XVII century, is today home to the Municipal Archives. Earlier remains of a late Roman necropolis can still be seen there, and manuscripts from XII century onwards are stored there, including important documents from 1490, when King Fernando the Catholic granted Alicante the title of city.
