Vlogs

Swept up in a landscape of vines and with a history that has left behind great heritage, Utiel is a destination that will have you coming back time and time again.

Utiel is synonymous with wine, vines and vineyards, with cultivation land and great scenery, and with great cultural and architectural heritage. Come and explore the destination with us and discover everything you can get up to here.

What to see in Utiel

Located in La Plana de Utiel-Requena, Utiel sits in one of the most important winemaking areas in the Region of Valencia. As soon as you arrive, the first thing you should do is check out what the Utiel-Requena wine trail has to offer. Revolving - as you might have guessed - around wine, this selection of experiences and activities will take you to wineries, wine shops and other places related to the product.

The area’s local sausages, which are the fruit of tradition and savoir faire, are the perfect accompaniment to the wines, which together make the perfect pairing duo.

The town of Utiel itself is well worth exploring. Start your discovery at the underground wineries, which date back to the medieval period. There are nearly two hundred of these caves, excavated into the subsoil of the historic centre, used centuries ago as wineries, supporting the local wine industry. You will then want to idly wander the streets of the historic centre and take pictures of the many pretty spots that you’ll see.

Well worth taking a look around is Museo del Vino de la Comunidad Valenciana, a wine museum housed in a building known as Bodega Redonda, which is the heart of the Utiel-Requena designation of origin. The museum will teach you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about how wine is made.

Don’t forget to pop your head into 16th century Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church, as well as Virgen del Remedio Chapel, also from the 16th century and located some 10km from the town.

Utiel’s beautiful scenery and weather make it a great hiking destination. The town also hosts great festivals such as San Antonio Abad, Carnival and Fallas. So what are you waiting for? Come and discover everything this wonderful destination has to offer.
