What to see in Sollana

Sollana, which is just a stone’s throw from València city, dates back to Arab times. Wander the streets of the centre and you will soon come across points of interest, such as El Raval and La Inmaculada churches, the town market and the old wash house, a structure that you’ll see in many destinations across the Region of Valencia and that speaks of times past.

If you venture outside the village itself, you will be rewarded with views of the Albufera wetlands. You’ll find yourself reaching for your camera at every turn, particularly in the Portet de Sollana and Motor de bala areas where the boats and rice fields paint a pretty picture. We recommend you do some walking, take a bike ride or hop on a boat to visit the lake, particularly at sunset. The area is also the perfect place to do some stargazing

Of the many beautiful places you can explore, make sure you don’t miss Tancat de Milia, an enclosed nature reserve where you might just be lucky enough to spot animals - some of which are at risk of extinction - such as flamingos, coots, ospreys, ducks, herons and more. The reserve is part of Albufera and close to the Mediterranean. If you’d like to visit, remember that you need to book in advance.

It goes without saying that rice plays a pivotal role in the culture of Sollana. During your time here, you simply have to sit down to enjoy a rice dish and visit the rice fields, seeing how the scenery changes each season of the year. The area is also home to ullals, freshwater springs, where you can find some interesting wildlife.

Festivals mark Sollana’s event calendar, particularly Noche de las Paellas, paella night, which is held on the 14 August. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your trip to a destination with plenty of things to see and do.
