Come with us on an exploration of the highlights of an historic town with plenty of delicious gastronomy.

Located in Vall d’Albaida, Ontinyent is the perfect destination to soak up some culture and experience festivities defined by tradition. In this town, which sits on the banks of the river Clariano, you can explore the charming historic centre, fascinating museums and hiking trails through great scenery. Shall we take a look around?

What to do in Ontinyent

The best place to start your exploration of Ontinyent is in La Vila district, where you can take a look at La Vila Palace, which is now home to the Valencian Textile Museum, the Processional Giants Museum and the Tourist Information Centre. Afterwards, we’d recommend taking a walk to Plaza del Castell and Carrer Major, from where you will find dead-end alleyways, known as “atzucac”, that are typical of the old layout of this part of the town.

Next on your list of things to visit in Ontinyent is Santa María church, which dates back to the 14th century, and the bell tower, which is said to be the tallest in the Region of Valencia. You can then make your way to the wash house and 13th century L’Atxa Tower. And visit a couple of air-raid shelters from the Civil War, the medieval streets, archaeological and festival museums, palaces and beautiful Plaza Major. You are going to love everything that you see here.

Crossing the river, Santa María Bridge will give you views over the old factories and their incredible chimneys. You can also go and see them up close. You also won’t want to miss Vell Bridge

Just outside Ontinyent is Pou Clar, a beautiful collection of natural pools with crystalline water and picnic areas that promise an unforgettable day out. The photos you take from here will be amazing. There is also an extensive network of signposted trails that will take you on an exploration of the surroundings.

Ontinyent’s festivals are a great excuse to visit the town: Moors and Christians, Fair, Corpus Christi and Holy Week are all great celebrations. And you also have to try the local sweet treats, olive oils, honey, sausages and rice dishes. It’s time to start planning your getaway.
