What to see in Macastre

We’d recommend starting your explorations by taking a look around central Macastre. Wander around the historic centre and enjoy Plaza de los Árboles, which is lined with lovely houses, some of which date back to the 19th century, like the property that houses the local council.

La Transfiguración del Salvador Parish Church is another sight that is well worth a visit. This place of worship was built between the 17th and the 18th centuries. As you stroll around, your attention will be drawn to the medieval layout of the most historic part of the village, defined by the typical narrow streets.

Continue your leisurely amble and you will soon reach another point of interest, Los Vientos Viewing Point, which affords wide ranging views. Afterwards, you can make your way to the nearby ruins of Macastre Castle. At the site of this Muslim fortification, the remains of much older civilisations have also been found. The walls and towers have seen a great deal of history.

Nestled in the surrounding scenery, the walk to the ruins of Macastre Castle is an easy and lovely one. Located on the slopes of the same hill is El Bolot, a popular and much beloved fountain. Other places that you will want to visit include Fuente de Santa Bárbara wash house which is always lovely and cool and affords great views over the castle and nearby destinations like Turís

Water continues to be the focal point of Macastre’s landscapes at the Grande Fountain, a natural spring that has shaped a cool and leafy landscape where you can dine alfresco at the picnic tables. This area isn’t far from the centre and you can get here on foot. Fancy coming to see it all in person?
