When you want to visit a place steeped in history, look no further than Caudete de las Fuentes. Because of its strategic location, it has been a natural passageway between the plateau and the Mediterranean coast for centuries. Its location is so important that the Iberians decided to build one of their most important cities, Kelin, there, on the hill of Los Villares.

Caudete de las Fuentes is sustained by its agricultural crops, livestock and its main economic export, wine. Winemaking has been a tradition here for centuries. In addition to that, you can see the La Mancha influence on the area in its traditions, its culture, the people’s way of speaking and even the character of the destination.

What to see in Caudete de las Fuentes

Walk through its narrow, steep streets and you’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time. You’ll be able to see Parroquia de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora (which was built in the mid-18th century), Plaza Mayor or the area’s main church. Other important spots include Plaza de Correos, Placetilla, Tómbola and Calle de García Berlanga, all of which are in the central part of town and host countless celebrations and events all year long.

After you visit the destination’s historic centre, head to the Colección Museográfica Luis García de Fuentes and see preserved items from the ancient city of Kelin. And of course, you can’t leave without a glass (or many!) of its local wine. Walk through the destination’s vineyards, feel the essence of its rural tourism and let the natural aromas of the area bring your senses to life.
