What to do in Castielfabib

If you are looking for a country escape, Castielfabib is the perfect place to run away to. One of the best ways to get up close to nature is to walk hiking trails that are bursting with natural charm. A lovely place to take a walk is La Muela de los Tres Reinos, a municipal natural landscape that marks the point where the Regions of Valencia, Castilla La Mancha and Aragon meet. In this area, you can wander along a number of different trails that will lead you to natural springs, caves and the most breathtaking views.

Castielfabib sits on the banks of the river Ebrón, another beauty spot we recommend you take the time to explore. As you follow the course of water, you will find yourself falling head over heels in love with the stunning natural landscape. The walk, which is well signposted, will take you to a number of fascinating sights such as Hoces del Ebrón, the hydroelectric centre, Cuevas de Hituelo and Villa Vieja, to name but a few.

Lomas de Abril is a third hiking trail that will immerse you in the natural scenery enveloping Castielfabib. The woodland drawing the border of the destination is a magical world inhabited with wonders of many sorts: gorges, caves decorated with prehistoric art, historic stables, farm buildings, a defence wall and more. All wrapped up in the most extraordinary fauna and flora. What more could you possibly want?

But beyond its natural delights, Castielfabib also has a rich historic and cultural heritage. As you wander the steep and narrow streets of the village, you will find yourself reaching for your camera to take picture-postcard shots. Before long, you will find yourself in the highest points of the municipality, Torreta and Torre del Hospital, gazing down at stunning panoramic views over the whole of Rincón de Ademuz.

There are a number of Medieval vestiges located within Castielfabib’s defence walls. Guided tours will take you on an exploration of this part of the village where you can see sights such as Casa de la Villa, the parish church and Castielfabib castle. The fortress sits atop the hill overlooking the village and once served as the base for the construction of the impressive church, which is an exponent of the Gothic style from the times of the Conquest.

The past is also present at the ruins of San Guillermo convent, which is located on the other side of the river Ebrón. The place of worship was built in the 14th century by the Augustinians and only a few ruins remain, such as the Herrerian gate. Other traces of the past can be seen in the local archaeological sites where you can see, among other treasures, Iberian ceramics.

To conclude your time in Castielfabib there is nothing better than savouring some of its local cuisine. The village has plenty of traditional dishes for you to try, such as gachas, potaje and arroz empedrado. If you’ve got room for something sweet, make sure you try manzana esperiega, a type of apple grown in Rincón de Ademuz. So what are you waiting for? Come and enjoy a peaceful visit to this beautiful part of the Region of Valencia.
