Carrícola, in the province of Valencia, is a charming municipality that is worth escaping to time and time again, and it is also one of the villages included in Route 99! So you can be sure that this is a great little destination to escape to in search of rural and natural tourism with a very special touch of contemporary art.
What to see in Carrícola
Carrícola hides a great plan, a route through nature in which you will find interesting sculptures in a contemporary style, which you can also enjoy in the town centre. It is a project that tries to populate both the streets and the surrounding area, especially on the way up to the Castle of Carrícola, of Almohad origin, built between the 10th and 12th centuries.
There are many hiking routes in Carrícola, and following some of them you will come across the Islamic arcades. These arcades are hydraulic infrastructures that have stood the test of time and some of them are still working! In the territory of Carrícola there are three of them: the Font del Gatell Arcade, the Barranc de Les Passeres Arcade and the Barranc de l'Arcà.
If you visit them you will discover 14th century constructions that show us how the irrigation and cultivation system was organised, since with the arcades it was possible to extend the territory of the orchard to the other side of the ravines. Heritage, history and hiking combine to offer you unique experiences: follow the water route in Carrícola and let yourself be carried away.
This village has many festivals to highlight, such as the Fiesta de la Cazuelita and the Fiesta de la Aparición. The Regional Festivities of Carrícola are held at the end of September in honour of the Crist del Calvari. It is a time of the year when the village is full of events: parades, costume parades, the Parada Mora, musical performances and much more. Enjoy this village in the Vall d'Albaida and immerse yourself in its natural environment, the experience will be unforgettable.
