What to do in Benissanó

Benissanó Castle is a must-visit during your getaway. Construction work started on the fortress in the 15th century to build a rectangular structure with crenellated turrets at the corners. Nowadays, the castle is home to lovely grounds where you will be immersed in centuries of history. You can also take a look at Escut d'Armes dels Senyors de Benissanó, the Coat of Arms of the Lords of Benissanó.

The Castle is extremely well conserved and open to visitors. You can enjoy taking a look around the Upper Floor, the perimeter, the terraces, the wineries, stained-glass windows, ceramics and decorative elements dating to 1900, the year in which it was turned into a residence. The beauty of this fortress is sure to take you aback. In February, the castle turns into a huge medieval market where you can enjoy historic re-enactments.

Benissanó Walls are another great reason to come and explore the destination. The walls still have their old stone gates, namely Bétera, Llíria and Valencia, which used to serve as access points to the town. Next up on our exploration of the centre is Los Santos Reyes Parish Church where you can gaze at interesting paintings from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, some of which have been attributed to Juan de Juanes.

Finally, we’d recommend taking a leisurely stroll through the streets in search of the beautiful old ceramic altarpieces, most of which date from the 19th century and depict different religious figures. Come to Benissanó to discover all of its wonders.
