A rural destination swept up in great scenery, Benagéber is the perfect choice for an outdoorsy getaway.

Located in Los Serranos in the province of Valencia, Benagéber is a destination set in spectacular natural scenery. Nestled in a valley among the mountains, the surrounding woods make it a hiker’s and rural and nature tourism lover’s paradise.

What to do in Benagéber

Benagéber has had two locations, the oldest of which now sits on the bed of Benagéber reservoir and has three districts. The site of the original settlement was named Aldea de Nieva, which is now located next to present-day Benagéber. The other two districts, Las Colonias and El Pantano, can be explored on a walk that will take you through the most beautiful scenery.

In the centre, make sure you don’t miss La Inmaculada Concepción church, San Isidro chapel and Casa Museo. You can breathe in beautiful vistas from the viewing points around Benagéber, namely mirador de Nieva, mirador del Cerrillar and mirador del Pico Franco. The old cemetery is another place to take a nice walk.

Los Picachos natural landscape, or Charco Negro, is a protected area of biodiversity. It sits on the banks of a tributary of the river Turia, the Regajo, whose mouth is at Benagéber reservoir. This is a place where you can enjoy the Mediterranean flora and spot all sorts of different animals. Benagéber is also a great mushrooming, and active and sports tourism destination.

Here you can go horse riding, canyoning, rock climbing, abseiling and much, much more. If you’re spending time in Benagéber you’re going to want to try caldereta de cordero (lamb stew), which is a key feature of Fiestas de San Antón, as well as gazpacho with game and mushrooms and turrón de rosas (nougat). Do you fancy coming to visit this fascinating destination? You’re going to love the atmosphere during the August festivities.
