Located in the province of Alicante, Monforte del Cid is a great destination if you enjoy playing golf in natural scenery and the warm weather. But it is also the perfect choice if you are keen to visit a small town steeped in history, culture and heritage where you can take a look around fantastic museums. Come for a getaway and enjoy all its charms.

What to see in Monforte del Cid

Start your explorations of Monforte del Cid wandering through the centre, whose layout has not changed since medieval times and where you can see houses dating from the 16th to 20th centuries with façades decorated with typical Manises ceramics depicting religious scenes.

Make sure you look out for the town hall with its 16th century arches and coat of arms as well as Gothic Nuestra Señora de las Nieves Church, and San Pascual and San Roque Chapels. You are going to enjoy taking a walk to see these lovely buildings.

We also recommend stopping at Ibero, the Museum of Monforte del Cid’s History, where you can see sculptures of bulls from the Iberian period and even a Roman tombstone. Indeed, not far from Monforte del Cid and Novelda is El Campet estate, where the remains of a great Roman villa were discovered.

Once you have explored the centre, your next stop should be Orito, a district of Monforte del Cid that is a site of pilgrimage where you can see San Pascual Church and Convent, 16th century Virgen de Orito Church and San Pascual Cave. If you fancy soaking up the incredible views of the area, a good idea is to walk to the district. In May, a pilgrimage ends here.

If you are looking for ways to spend your free time, Monforte del Cid has excellent golf courses as well as magnificent Moors and Christians festivities in December. Before you leave, make sure you try the Designation of Origin Vinalopó grape, anisette and liqueurs, as well as the local pastries, cakes and stews. This is a destination that will steal your heart forever.
