What to do in Millena

Let’s begin our trip to Millena with a visit to San José Parish Church. This religious landmark houses an interesting museum collection of valuable historic pieces including a painting attributed to El Greco, the brilliant 16th century painter. Next to the church in the same square is an elm tree that is over 300 hundred years old. Have a rest in the shade of this majestic tree after you visit the church.

On the edge of the village you’ll find two magnificent fountains, Font de Dalt, whose public wash house is still intact, and Font de Baix, another wash house now with a fantastic picnic area that has space for barbecues.

Millena Tower is next on our tour. This defensive structure is believed to date back to the Almohad era but has suffered several modifications over the centuries. Put your comfy shoes on for the next part of the trip up to Travadell Castle; the castle ruins serve as the most important historic site of Millena so don’t miss checking it out.

The remains of this ancient fortress from the Islamic period stand on a rocky ledge affording strategic views of the surroundings. Part of the original wall is still visible, as is the largest tower. The walk up to the castle is a delight, and if you fancy walking even further, then continue on to an even older site located at the famous Penya del Dimoni

This rock carving is so ancient you can’t help but marvel at the centuries of history it holds. Go on a hike in the country and visit this archeological site along the way, admiring the views as you walk. Come and explore Millena and take home an experience you will never forget.
