Located in El Comtat in the province of Alicante, Gaianes is a charming village sitting close to the Sierra del Benicadell mountainscape and El Serpis Protected Landscape. What to see in Gaianes

The centre of Gaianes is home to something special: San Jaime Apóstol Parish Church. This Gothic Revival place of worship sits on the site of an old mosque and is sure to steal your heart. Next, wander along the traditional streets until you reach beautiful San Francisco de Paula Chapel.

Another walk that you won’t want to miss will lead you to the ruins of Gaianes Castle, a strategically located medieval fortress. The walk to the castle is an easy one, taking you about 40 minutes from the centre.

Gaianes is situated in what is known as Solana del Benicadell, a setting where geology has shaped unexpected landscapes, namely La Albufera de Gaianes. This beautiful wetlands, which is part of El Serpis Protected Landscape, is fed by underground waters.

During your explorations, you’ll come across an observation point where you can do some birding and wooden boardwalks where you can take some great photos. If you love plants, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are plenty of fascinating species here. It’s more than worth the visit.  

Gaianes is also the trailhead for more strenuous hikes up to the top of El Benicadell. As you walk, you will make your way through dryland farming scenery populated with dry stone structures. You could also visit nearby Beniarrés, which has a beautiful reservoir. So what are you waiting for?
