Benissa is a Mediterranean destination that will envelop you in a verdant mountainscape and azure waters. Treating you to the best of both worlds, the town is well worth a visit to wander its Medieval streets and enjoy the unique natural landscapes.
What to see in Benissa
If you’re interested in discovering everything Benissa has to offer, the best place to start is the historic centre. Here you will find some of the town’s most well-known sights, such as the Ayuntamiento. Constructed in 1790, this building was originally the municipal hospital before becoming the town hall you can see today.
Another historic sight is Casa Museo Abargues. Dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, this noble home has been turned into a museum, showcasing each of its original rooms furnished with historic objects. A wonderful way to travel back in time and discover how the upper classes used to live.
As you continue strolling along the streets you will come across a building whose façade will capture your attention: Casa de Juan Vives. Legend has it that one night the owners put up a couple of pilgrims who, to show their gratitude, gave them a statue of Puríssima Xiqueta. It is said that from this moment on a number of miracles took place here. If you are visiting the town in the month of April, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy one of the most exciting events of the year: the night of Día del Riberer.
Outside the town, Benissa’s natural scenery will take your breath away. Along the coast, you will find some of the most stunning coves in the area. El Pinets is a small sandy and rocky cove that will lead you to Mar Morta i Roques Negres. El Advocat is another beautiful cove that is ideal for floating about in the crystalline waters and taking gentle strolls with the sea breeze gently caressing your face.
If you love sport, the area also won’t disappoint. Club de Golf Ifach is a great course that affords spectacular views over the surrounding landscapes. What’s more, Paseo Ecológico is a wonderful hiking route that will take you along the cliffs and hidden coves of the coastline, treating you to the most spectacular vistas along the way. Font de Bèrnia route is an ideal trail for more intrepid walkers, immersing you in incredible rock formations and the rugged landscapes of Bèrnia.
With its history, coastline and sport, Benissa is an incredible destination in the Region of Valencia that is defined by the essence of the Mediterranean.
