What to see in Benimeli

A good place to start your explorations of Benimeli is in the village itself, specifically Calle de la Mola, a quiet street where you can forget all about the stresses of everyday life. Originally a Muslim alquería, the destination was once administered by Dénia but is now its own municipality where the economy revolves around farming, making sense of the village’s strong connection to the local land and scenery

Benimeli is a great place to do some hiking. There is a trail that will take you from Plaza Mayor to Monte de Segaria, in the mountains of the same name. Along the way, you will come across archaeological remains, specifically an Iberian site, Moorish terraces and even what remains of the house once inhabited by prince Labe Abad-El-Melichi Almuzafar. The remains are commonly known as “cadireta del Rei Moro”.

The trail also leads to a number of fountains in Benimeli, namely El Campillo, Ramón and Catalá, as well as a number of caves. Another lovely walk is Las Penyetes Roges trail. Once you’ve finished your walk, you’re sure to have worked up an appetite, so why not try some local dishes such as arroz al horno, espencat or fregit, cocas, arroz con alubias and pencas, puchero and paella, as well as delicious desserts like coca boba and buñuelos

If you’re travelling in August, make sure you don’t miss the village's Fiestas de Agosto with its lively street parties, parades and correfocs. The bells will chime and you’ll feel like you’ve found a place where you can really unwind. Come and explore Benimeli
