Come and explore a part of the province of Castellón that is home to beautiful scenery and streets that ooze tradition. The perfect place to unwind in the midst of lovely landscapes.

Located in El Alto Palancia in the province of Castellón, Soneja is a destination with unique and astonishing landscapes populated with an abundance of native plants and wildlife. This is a great destination if you are in search of a rural tourism experience. Discover everything that you can see in the municipality and enjoy an unforgettable getaway.

What to do in Soneja

To start, we recommend heading off in search of San Miguel Arcángel Parish Church and the Belltower. An 18th-century church, it still has some elements from the previous place of worship it sits atop. The church also has old and highly valuable bells.

Wander around to discover the Arabic layout of the historic centre and make your way to Los Montellano Old Palace whose façade will blow you away. Without venturing outside the centre of Soneja, you can stop off to take a look around the Gypsum Museum, a place where you will be wowed by the local geology.

Dating back to the 17th century, San Francisco Javier Chapel in Soneja is a must for your to-visit list as is El Calvario de Cristo de la Providencia Chapel. You’ll also want to see the ruins of Soneja’s Carlist Walls, dating to the 19th century, that you can see to the north of the village, close to the River Palacia.

And then there’s Soneja’s hydraulic heritage. Make sure you go and visit La Mirla (or the Municipal) Wash House, Noyanta Wash House and El Arco, a 14th-15th century aqueduct.

Fountains, drinking troughs, mills and allenadores dot the urban landscape and its surrounds. There’s even an old paper factory. We’d also recommend walking the trails that will immerse you in Soneja’s scenery as well as exploring La Dehesa Municipal Natural Landscape

A lake sitting on the top of a mountain, the latter is a place of great environmental value. The wetlands are home to a fascinating range of biodiversity which has been a source of wealth for former civilisations. Not far away, there’s an old quarry where you can see how the wheels of mills were built, discover veteran trees and enjoy an impressive natural viewing point. Come to Soneja to enjoy the Region of Valencia’s nature and history.
