Beautiful landscapes meet historic heritage in a destination that can be explored both on foot and by bike. Come and explore.

Puebla de Arenoso is a destination located in the Alto Mijares area of the province of Castellón. Here the landscapes will tempt you to pull on your walking boots to roam beautiful scenery and visit historic remains. If you’re craving a country getaway, this is it.

What to see in Puebla de Arenoso

The best place to start your explorations is in the medieval heart of the village where you can soak up the rural atmosphere. Wander around and before too long you’ll come across the Renaissance Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles church and its plaza which, unusually, is triangular in shape. Make sure you look out for the 16th century town hall and the abbey.

You could also do a spot of chapel hopping in the village, stopping off at Santo Tomás, San Cristóbal, Los Ángeles, Loreto and Santa Bárbara. And then there’s the walk up to the castle, listed a Site of Cultural Interest, which overlooks Arenoso reservoir. Sitting atop a rocky landscape, this Arab fortress still has sections of the curtain wall and turrets standing, even though it dates all the way back to the 12th century.

Puebla de Arenoso is a superb cycling destination. Stop off at Centro BTT Alto Mijares to discover the best trails and useful information that will help you during your day out. It’s also a favourite spot among hikers who can enjoy walks to the districts of Los Calpes, La Monzona and Los Cantos, seeing plenty of country houses and hamlets along the way. Alternatively you could explore the beautiful landscapes of Pozo de las Palomas. The trails in Cantar del Mio Cid even include the destination.

Puebla de Arenoso hosts festivals that you won’t want to miss, such as the patron saint festivities in honour of San Mateo, which are held in September, and the celebrations that take place in Los Calpes in August. So what are you waiting for? Let yourself be drawn to this beautiful part of the province of Castellón.
