Vlogs

Moncofa is located in la Plana Baixa county in the province of Castellón. A coastal municipality whose Arab past has left a visible mark, this is a destination where you can enjoy both the wonders of the Costa Azahar as well as the plentiful historic and artistic heritage living on in the village today.

What to do in Moncofa

You won’t be short on things to do during your time in Moncofa. A good place to start your day is the coast, taking a stroll to discover the various beaches and coves.

Estanyol beach is located in an area that has been declared a wildlife area. As resort and development construction is restricted here, it is a popular spot for nudists (up until Chilches beach).

If you’ve got a four-legged friend, Belcaire beach is the perfect place to have a good run around. Extending to the estuary of the river Belcaire, this small pebbly beach - just 500m long - has a small atoll floating in the sea. It is a great place to do some line fishing. There are also a number of other beaches in Moncofa where you can breathe in the tranquillity and fresh sea air.

Once you’ve discovered the coast, you can head to the village’s historic centre to see some beautiful sights such as Santa María Magdalena parish church. The present-day church was built in 1698 on a smaller church dating back to 1329. The new church combines the Baroque and Valencian Neoclassical styles. Inside the church, the central nave gives way to smaller naves on the side where there are chapels to Mary Magdalene, the Immaculate Conception, Isidore the Farm Labourer, the Holy Sepulchre, the Suffering of Jesus Christ and Jesus of Nazareth, among others.

Another of the sights on your to-visit list should be Santa María Magdalena chapel. Mary Magdalene is an icon of the coastal village known as the El Grao and every year on the 23 July the Desembarco de la Patrona is celebrated, an important festival for local residents.

And it goes without saying that the cuisine in Moncofa is as great as it is in the whole of the Region of Valencia. You can’t leave the village without first trying arrosejat and arroz negro, followed by Meló de Moncofa, which is known as the sweetest and tastiest melon in the Region of Valencia.
