Discover the perfect place to escape in search of tranquillity, tradition and beautiful landscapes: come to Matet to disconnect!

Matet is a small town in the foothills of the Sierra de Espadán mountain range that forms part of the Alto Palancia region of Castellón.

What to see in Matet

It is a privileged location for lovers of hiking routes, with ravines, watercourses and mountains, and the omnipresent landscape of olive groves, the source of the delicious olive oil from this area of Castellón.

On an urban route we recommend you start at the top, at the 11th century Arab tower that crowns Matet, known as Pilón Tower, and then continue along its narrow streets, with houses that still stand out. You can also enjoy an old olive mill, where the olives were pressed, and beautiful fountains and curious paintings in the Comunitat Valenciana Square.

The 17th century Parish Church of San Juan Bautista is another must-see, with a main altar that is well worth a closer look, as is the Hermitage of Santa Bárbara.

As for the landscape around Matet, the fountains and pine woods invite you to stroll and rest, with picnic areas. Don't miss the Fuente que Nace, or the Burros, Carro, Lentisco or Panoja fountains, where you can see great landscapes and take beautiful photos as souvenirs!

If you feel like climbing, there are the mountains of Monterico, el Rector and el Carro, on the way to which you can see the remains of abandoned mines and old snow deposits. And if you like botanical diversity, you can enjoy the Argotalla ravine.

Matet is also a gastronomic destination, where you can enjoy fantastic olive oil, sardine buns or good porridge, without forgetting the sweets such as ‘regañás’ or ‘congretes’. And don't miss its festivities! San Antonio Abad in January fills the village with a great aroma of embers and cold meats, and is especially colourful due to the blessing of the animals. In August the patron saint's festivities bring music and open-air dances, and a pilgrimage!

When would you like to visit? Come to Matet and enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of its surroundings!
