The Tabarca-Santa Pola swim, excitement and spectacle

For the tenth consecutive year, Tabarca and Santa Pola will be hosting the only distance swimming event in Spain that runs from an island to the mainland. Swimmers have to complete a 5,900 metre course and, once again, the race is expected to attract around a thousand competitors from Spain and abroad.

An event of this size is quite a spectacle to watch and is made even more impressive because of the beautiful scenery along this stretch of the Mediterranean coastline. Santa Pola is the nearest point on the mainland to Tabarca, the only inhabited island in the Region of Valencia.

Visiting Tabarca is a way of paying tribute to this Mediterranean haven, which has provided a source of inspiration for many artists. Come and enjoy exploring coves and beaches lapped by a transparent sea, plus a picturesque harbour and excellent restaurants where you can try the island's traditional dish of caldero (fish stew).

Whether you decide to watch from Santa Pola or Tabarca, don't miss this swimming race on Sunday 7 July, in which around a thousand swimmers will leave the island and make their way to Playa de Varadero, determined to overcome their fears and enjoy the Costa Blanca waters. Don't miss this paradise of crystal clear water!
