The Costa Blanca is starting March with a series of gastronomy events and activities. Anyone visiting the province of Alicante will find a wide range of alternatives for tasting the area's produce and the traditional dishes served at this time of year. Come and try them!

In the north of the province, Denia will be holding the II Concurso Internacional de Cocina Creativa de la Gamba Roja de Dénia on 5 March in the town's market building. The event is held in honour of the area's prized crustacean, the red prawn, and provides a promotional launch pad for aspiring young chefs keen to show off their creative culinary skills.  The competition is now entering its second year and is already internationally renowned, both for the quality of the contestants and for the judging panel, led by three-times Michelin starred chef, Quique Dacosta. A trip to Denia to see the competing chefs in action is an excellent excuse for going to see one of the town's most emblematic monuments, the Castillo de Denia.

The Arroces de Torrevieja event is being held in Torrevieja this week. From 4 to 10 March, the town's leading restaurants will be serving a menu priced at €22.50, mainly featuring traditional rice dishes such as rice with octopus, arroz y bancal (a vegetarian dish), arroz a banda (rice cooked with fish stock), arroz de boquerones (with whitebait), arroz marinero (with seafood) and arroz de caldero (rice stew). The event is a very good reason for making the trip to Torrevieja, walking along the seafront promenade and the Dique de Levante dock area, visiting the Conjunto Histórico Monumental Eras de la Sal, or touring the Museo del Mar y la Sal before sitting down to a delicious rice lunchtime menu.

Further south, restaurants in Pilar de la Horadada are getting themselves ready to mark the arrival of Lent with the 3rd Sabores de Cuaresma Easter week gastronomy event. Come to this Alicante town and enjoy traditional dishes associated with this time of year and made using top quality locally-sourced ingredients, all for only €20.

Don't miss this opportunity to visit these Costa Blanca towns and savour their most distinctive dishes!
