Currently ART AL VENT is the most important outside Exposition of textile creations in Spain.  It is also the most international exhibition held in the Comunidad Valenciana.

The 13th Edition, which will be inaugurated on the 12th of August 2016, can be visited in calle La Bassa in Gata until 4th of September.  The works of about 100 authors from 22 different countries will be on display, for the first time originating from 5 different continents.

The popular tradition of hanging bedspreads from balconies for a procession has been firmly rooted in the Marina Alta region for decades.  Exceptionally, this ancient tradition has stayed very alive in the municipality of Gata de Gorgos.

With this in mind, the School of Experimental Plastic Arts A. Vives, an afiliate of the Gata de Gorgos Town Hall, reflected on the possibility of combining the creation of contempoary textiles with the existing tradition, and so ART AL VENT was born.  For this reason, the works are the same size as the traditional bed covers and nothing can disturb the free flow of the fabrics moving in the wind.  Priority is given to textile creations and rigid or heavy elements are excluded. To reaffirm the tradition, the route of the exhibition stretches from the Duquessa d'Almodóvar Street, along la Bassa Street until the Plaza de España, whose arts and crafts shops have given the town its reputation as a great place to shop. In some parts of La Bassa street, as well as in the Church Square, traditional bed covers are hung on procession days.

This event, which attracts hundreds of visitors every year, enhances not only the artisan tradition of the municipality but also the variety of shops and dining establishments, providing the town with yet another tourist attraction.

In addition, during the exhibition, the Council for Culture organizes concerts, lectures and recitals, etc in the same itinerary as the Exhibition bringing the August nights to life and inviting neighbours and visitors alike to enjoy the exhibits and the streets of the town at sunset.
