Floats, music and firework displays in Denia
Publishing date 8/07/2013
Denia will be holding its annual festival in honour of the "Santíssima Sang" until 14 July. Festive events on the programme include the Desfile de Carrozas, Comparsas y Música in which carnival floats, music and dance invade the streets in a parade that holds the status of Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest.
This week, the Marina Alta region is holding one of its most traditional festivals, the "Festa Major 2013 de Denia", a unique opportunity to explore this great destination and enjoy a festive break. The festival is a lively blend of music, fireworks, children's games and bull running, featuring the traditional "Bous a la Mar" (bulls by the seaside).
This year, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the declaration of "Bous a la Mar" as a Festival of National Tourist Interest, the programme will be featuring other activities such as livestock displays alongside the bull running.
The annual Festival is also the setting for a series of open-air concerts and dances, including the "Santíssima Sang" concert by the Agrupación Artístico Musical de Dénia on Wednesday 10 July; the Rob Cassels Band on 11 July, and a performance by the band Montecarlo (12 July) and Scream (13 July).
On Saturday at 7 pm, it's parade time, with floats, carnival groups and music along the streets of Marqués de Campo, Diana and Patricio Ferrándiz. This lively parade with carnival floats designed and decorated by local community groups, who work on them all through the year, has been declared a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest for its originality.
Enjoy some of the most original festivals in the Region of Valencia this summer!
