Carnival in Grao de Castellón
Carnival celebration in Grao de Castellón 2014
Once again, "El Grao de Castellón" will held on the 1st and 2nd of March its particular Carnival celebration. Visitors will be able to enjoy different workshops as well as the colorful parades that will fill the streets of the maritime district of Castellón. What is more, you will have the chance to experience one of the most traditional events of this period known as "El entierro de la sardina", which marks the end of the festivity.

12:00 p.m. (Puerto Azahar). Children's workshops and entertainment activities. This will include different wokshops such us make-up, creation of masks, Carnival face-painting, balloon modelling, juggling and story-telling.
6:00 p.m. (Paseo Buenavista). Street band performance known as "charanga".
6:30 p.m. (Tenencia de Alcaldia del Grao). Official opening ceremony.
7:00 p.m. (Calles Monturiol y Mossèn Llorenç Cot). Gathering together of the participants in the big Carnival parade.
8:00 p.m. Great Carnival Parade. It is characterised by the colorful costumes, street floats, music and entertaining exhibitions. Itinerary: Calles Charruca, Avinguda del Port, Canàries, Sant Pere, Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano to Calle Gravina. Return itinerary: from Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano and Calle Sant Pere to the park of La Panderola.
Following the Big Carnival Parade. (Sala Opal). Prize-giving ceremony. Prizes will be given to the most creative Carnival disguises (the contest categories will include: individual, couple, small group and big group), best performance and the best parade float.
11:30 p.m. Great Carnival Party. (Sala Opal). Music and DJ's performance.
6:00 p.m. (Parque de La Panderola). Drinking chocolate feast, known as "chocolatada".
7:00 p.m. (Parque de La Panderola). The traditional "Entierro de la sardina" which marks the end of Carnival. This event consists of a parade that simulates the burial of a sardine in which people show their sadness as the Carnival has finished. The festivity will conclude with a fireworks display.
