Publishing date 23/03/2015
The Ruta de les Ermites 2015 is a cycle of chamber music concerts held in Altea for more than a decade. This year, it starts on March the 28th and ends on April the 4th. Come to the white villa and enjoy the best music.
Concerts are held in the seven hermitages of Altea, located in seven emblematic places of the village, each one with its own oratory. They are: Santa Barbara, from the seventeenth century; San Isidro, from the twentieth century; Sant Roc, from the nineteenth century; Sant Antoni de Padua, from the nineteenth century; Sant Tomas de Villanueva, from the seventeenth century; Sant Lluis Beltrán, from the nineteenth century; and Convent de l'Olla from the twentieth century. These are the concert rooms were you can listen to this music cycle which is celebrated each year during the Easter Week. This year, the parish of Our Lady of Consolation is added to the hermitages and will hold a concert by the Capella dels Ministrers on Palm Sunday, March the 29th at six o'clock.
The concerts coincide with the start of the Holy Week and feature a varied program, with chamber music of different styles, such as classical, romantic, solo, traditional music and sacred music. The program has several concerts in collaboration with local artists or linked to Altea, including several groups formed by students and teachers of the Municipal Conservatory of Altea.
The concert route begins on March the 28th at noon, in the chapel of Santa Barbara, with a performance by Ensemble de Cámara Musicaltea. On Sunday, March the 29th, Palm Sunday, the parish of Our Lady of Consolation (Nuestra Señora del Consuelo) hosts, at 18 p.m., a performance by Capella dels Ministrers, who will sign Madre de Deus, songs of love and death in the Middle Ages. On Monday, March the 30th, the musical route continues in the hermitage of Sant Isidre, at 07 p.m., with a saxophone and piano concert by Tomás Jerez and Jesús Gómez. On Tuesday, March the 31st, the musical event will take place in the Carmelite Convent de l'Olla, with a concert by the Societat Filharmònica Alteanense choir, who will sing Josef Te Deum Lammerz. On Wednesday, April the 1st, at 07 p.m., the route moves to the hermitage of Sant Roc with a performance by Fantasía de Cámara. On Thursday, April the 2nd and Holy Thursday, the Musicants band offers a performance in the hermitage of Sant Antoni at 19 p.m. On April the 3rd, Holy Friday, at 12 o'clock the hermitage of Sant Tomas welcomes the performance by Assambra Tradicions of historic music: San Tomas de Cap Negret. The music cycle ends with the performance by Eva Fun Jazz in the hermitage of Sant Lluis on Saturday, April the 4th, at noon.
For the people of Altea, its hermitages represent a priceless heritage, surrounded by the oldest traditions and well preserved until today. Since 2008, the program includes a brief explanation of each hermitage prepared by historian Juan Vicente Martí.
Since the foundation of the town of Altea in 1617, the population also repopulated every corner of the borough, eventually creating dwelling cores surrounded by orchards and terraces, popularly called "partidas". These inhabited sites transformed the landscape and with the efforts of the neighbors, roads, ditches, plots and hermitages were born.
These "partidas" and their hermitages were still active well into the twenty-first century and hold different festivals and concerts like the ones in this cycle.
