Alicante will burn on the Bonfires of San Juan

The fire will prevail in the Valencia Region and especially in the province of Alicante. Are you ready to purify yourself in this good atmosphere and fun? Although the Bonfires of San Juan of the city of Alicante are the most famous ones, several municipalities in Alicante pay homage to San Juan through the satire of papier-mâché monuments that will make you smile. Bonfires of  Xàbia are one of the most famous, but they are also celebrated in Dénia, Calpe, Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja, San Vicente del Raspeig, Benidorm, etc. A perfect plan for these days is to go to some of the barracks associated with each bonfire where all the events of the festivity, both social and gastronomic, take place.

The Bonfires of the city of Alicante, that have been declared International Tourist Interest and Property of Intangible Cultural Heritage, kick off on June 20th with the 'plantà' of the fire, and then all eat 'coca en tonyina' (coca with tuna). From this day until June 24th, the night of the 'cremà', the streets of the city become a party: hustle, good food, music, tradition, social criticism and tons of fun. Thousands of people around the world each year are seduced by the party and fire, and make of Alicante a center of international attraction.

Many places of Spain celebrate the arrival of summer with the Bonfires of San Juan, but are especially famous those of the Mediterranean coast, especially those in the province of Alicante. The festival dates back to the days when farmers celebrated the longest day of the year for harvesting crops and the shortest for the destruction of evil through the night refiner's fire. The festival program includes activities of all kinds, parades, concerts, offering flowers, "correfocs", fireworks, and so on.
