Ayora, living history

The charming town of Ayora is located on a hill of 640 metres above the sea level. Different neighbourhoods can be distinguished in its urban design, whose route allows appreciate the legacy of the history of Ayora. A history that goes centuries back, the proof is that until 19th March, the Prehistoric Museum of Valencia offers a selection of the shelter of Tortosilla.

Ayora, living history

This shelter was discovered by Serrano brothers in the summer of 1911, becoming the first sign of prehistoric art discovered in Valencia. The uniqueness of the scenes of hunting, gathering honey, war, maternity or death in these panels, justified in 1998 the statement of the shelter of Tortosillas as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Do not hesitate to visit the Prehistoric Museum of Valencia, and prepare a weekend trip to the history town of Ayora where you will enjoy the old medieval quarter, its peaceful streets, the Plaza Mayor, the Lonja and the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption.
