Arrival of the Bulls and Horses in Segorbe, pure excitement

From 6th to 12th September, Segorbe will once again become home to a spectacle that has been declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, ‘La Entrada de Toros y Caballos’ (Arrival of the Bulls and Horses).

At this festival, which dates back to the 14th Century and has managed to retain its original essence thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of the municipality’s residents, a herd of bulls is guided through the street known as Calle Colón, by a dozen skilled horsemen.

The acts will be getting underway with the Tría in the Paseo Sopeña boulevard. The shepherds have to separate out the herd of bulls taking part in the ‘Entrada’ and get ready to herd them along the Camino del Rialé. At 2 p.m., to the thunderous uproar of the rocket launch, ‘La Entrada de Toros y Caballos’ gets underway in the Plaza de los Mesones square; this part of the festivity is known as the Reunión or gathering.

For the duration of barely one minute, bulls and riders thunder through Calle Colón street parting thousands of spectators. An exhibition of courage and bravery that is hard to beat.

Arrival of the Bulls and Horses in Segorbe, pure excitement

And following this injection of excitement, what better than to relax as you enjoy the landscapes surrounding the municipality. They include the unmissable natural spring known as the ‘Manantial de la Esperanza’ or Spring of Hope, situated just a few kilometres from Segorbe. A refreshing water spring located very close to the former Monastery of the Hieronymites.

The Paseo de Sopeña boulevard is also a wonderful place to enjoy nature. With views of the Sierra de Espadán mountains and the Palancia Valley, this privileged spot on the Castellón Costa Azahar coast rivals the Pau Botanic Gardens in beauty.

This natural area has a refreshing central fountain and a series of passageways that define the parterres, as well as a large balcony from which you can admire the Sierra Calderona mountains. Furthermore, the Pau Garden rises up like a temple and on the sides you can see part of the main cloisters of the Valley of Christ Charterhouse.

And there’s even more. During the week of bullfighting, the Traditional Cured Ham and Charcuterie Fair is also taking place, a delicious way to enjoy the week.
