Valencia is getting ready for La Crida

Publication date: 22/02/2010

La Crida in the Torres de Serrano La Crida en les Torres de Serrano

In Valencia they are counting down the minutes until 28th February. The Serrano Towers will be thronging with people this Sunday at 8 p.m. anxious to experience the light, the colour, the smell of gunpowder and all the excitement of the official start of the Fallas 2010, a Festival deemed to be of International Tourist Interest that gets underway with La Crida.

From the central street known as Calle la Paz, at 7.30 a.m., the traditional 'wake-up call' or Despertà will get underway, an event that leads into the Fallas breakfast. Then, music bands will fill the city's beautiful historic quarter and march through the Plaza de la Reina square and along Calle San Vicente street in a procession that ends up in Valencia's Plaza del Ayuntamiento square. At around 2 p.m. on Sunday, the deafening noise of the Mascletà fire cracker display will announce the start of the Fallas 2010.
